At a glance
What was delivered
Built underneath the app, so every future screen ships on brand without another design round.
Adventure and authenticity, turned from abstractions into an interface people use without thinking.
An established resort name rebuilt for a phone rather than adapted to one.
The app carries the stay itself, including activity and offers, not only the reservation.
The brief
Brand values are easy to write and hard to build
Kalahari is an established resort brand, and the request was not a booking form. It was the brand itself, translated into a product a guest uses during their stay.
That is where hospitality apps usually fail. The values a resort sells on — in this case adventure and authenticity — are abstractions, and abstractions have a habit of arriving in an interface as decoration: a texture here, an adjective there, while the flows underneath feel like any other booking tool.
An interface people can use without thinking, that still feels like the place they booked.
The build
The design system is the deliverable
The app is the visible half. The comprehensive design system underneath it is the half that keeps mattering, because a resort brand ships screens continuously — new packages, new seasons, new properties — and each one is an opportunity to drift off brand.
With the system in place, a future screen is assembled from components that already carry the brand, rather than designed and then checked against it. That is the difference between a one-off redesign and something an in-house team can extend.
Wow Labz delivered design, the design system and development.
How the brand carries
Atmosphere without friction
A nature led palette
The colour work does the brand's talking, so the interface can stay quiet. Guests read atmosphere from the surface rather than from copy explaining it.
Subtle pattern work
Texture that signals place without competing with content, which is the line most brand-led apps cross.
Flows that stay direct
The brand lives in the surface treatment. The paths through the app stay short, because a guest looking for their room number is not there for the atmosphere.

Questions
Kalahari, answered
What did Wow Labz build for Kalahari?
A high fidelity mobile app for the resort brand, plus a comprehensive design system underneath it. The engagement covered design, the design system and development.
Why does the design system matter so much here?
Because a resort ships screens constantly, for new packages, seasons and properties. With a system in place each new screen is assembled from components that already carry the brand instead of being designed and then checked against it.
What was the hard part?
Turning abstract brand values, adventure and authenticity, into an interface people can use without thinking. A nature led palette and subtle pattern work carry the brand while the flows stay direct.
Is it only for booking?
No. The app carries the stay itself, including in-resort activity and offers, not just the reservation.
