At a glance

What it changes

Immutablerecord of exchange

Blockchain guarantees a safe, permanent record between the people who need blood and those who give it.

Bloodline Tokendonor incentive

Donation is incentivised directly rather than relying entirely on altruism and campaigns.

Transparencyend to end

Where donated blood goes stops being opaque to the person who gave it.

Efficiencythe second goal

Matching need to willingness faster is as much of the problem as supply itself.

The brief

Supply is not the only shortage

Blood donation runs on goodwill and loses to friction. Someone willing to donate has to find where, when and whether their type is needed, and once they have given, the process goes dark — they will never know where it went or whether it helped.

That opacity has a cost. Repeat donation is the single most valuable behaviour in the system, and nothing about the current experience is designed to earn it.

Ask people to give without ever telling them what happened, and most give once.

The build

Why the ledger has to be immutable

The immutability is the trust mechanism. A record of blood exchange that any single party could quietly amend would be worth very little to a donor deciding whether the system deserves their arm — and it is precisely donors' confidence the product is trying to build.

The Bloodline Token layers an incentive on top of that trust. Incentivising donation is a delicate thing to design in healthcare, and it only works if the underlying record is credible; otherwise the token rewards a claim nobody can verify.

What it does

Record, incentivise, match

An immutable record

Blockchain guarantees a safe, permanent record of exchange, which is what makes the chain from donor to recipient auditable.

The Bloodline Token

Donors are incentivised directly, giving the system a lever beyond appeals and drives.

Transparency and efficiency

Bringing both to a process that has historically had little of either, connecting need to willingness more directly.

Questions

Bloodline, answered

What is Bloodline?

A platform that brings transparency and efficiency to blood donation, incentivising donors through the Bloodline Token and recording exchange on an immutable ledger.

What does the blockchain do here?

It guarantees a safe, immutable record of exchange between people who need blood and the people willing to give it, which is what makes the process auditable to a donor.

What is the Bloodline Token?

The incentive mechanism for donors, giving the system a direct lever rather than relying only on appeals and donation drives.
