At a glance

What it removes

Secondsbetween worlds

Moving from one metaverse to another as a transition rather than a session change.

1app

A single destination for travel between worlds, instead of one client per world.

Headsetstays on

The transition happens inside VR, which is the whole point.

Everyfavourite world

Built as a portal across worlds rather than a gateway into one.

The brief

Taking the headset off breaks the illusion

Immersion is the entire proposition of VR, and nothing breaks it like the mechanics of leaving. Switching worlds meant exiting an application, removing the headset, navigating a desktop, launching something else and going back in.

That is not a minor inconvenience in a medium built on presence. Every world becomes a destination you commit an evening to rather than somewhere you drop into, which caps how many worlds anyone realistically visits.

In a medium built on presence, the exit is the product's weakest moment.

The build

A portal, not another destination

MetaPort is deliberately not a world. It is the layer between worlds, which makes it a very different product to build: its success is measured by how little time anyone spends in it.

The design target is a transition measured in seconds, performed without ever taking off the headset. Both constraints push in the same direction, toward a portal that is nearly invisible in use — a doorway rather than a lobby.

It sits alongside Social.li, the interoperable metaverse protocol, which addresses the same fragmentation one layer down: MetaPort moves the user, the protocol moves what they own.

Questions

MetaPort, answered

What is MetaPort?

An intermetaverse portal that moves users from one metaverse to another in seconds. It is a single app for travelling between worlds without ever taking off the VR headset.

Is MetaPort itself a metaverse?

No. It is the layer between worlds, and its success is measured by how little time a user spends in it.

Why does not removing the headset matter?

Because immersion is what VR sells. Exiting an application, removing the headset and launching something else turns every world into an evening's commitment rather than somewhere you drop into.

How does it relate to Social.li?

They attack the same fragmentation at different layers. MetaPort moves the user between worlds; Social.li is the protocol that lets what they own move with them.
